Computing and Information Science
Guelph's Computing and Information Science (CIS) programs recognize the many roles computers play in our lives. That's why whatever your career goal, we have a program to meet your needs. Are you interested in developing sophisticate, high-tech software? Do you want to pursue scientific research using computers? Are you looking for a way to combine your interest in computers with another career path like art, business, mathematics, or music? All are possible at the University of Guelph.
The field of computer science is the infant of science disciplines. Or is it an art? Computer science is a diverse discipline which pervades nearly every aspect of life. Yet, as a renowned computer scientist Edsger Dijkstra is often quoted as saying, “Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes”.
To succeed in a career in computer science you must be talented, detail-oriented, innovative, forward-thinking, passionate, ambitious, and self-motivated. The Guelph CIS faculty and staff can help you achieve your goals by teaching you the practical skills you will need to set you on the way.
Is it a science or an art? That is really up to you to decide. Whether you want to design artificial intelligence software for interplanetary explorer robots, user interfaces for personal amusement devices or visual effects techniques for the film industry, it all starts here.
