Outreach
The School of Computer Science (SOCS) is committed to providing resources for high school teachers to enrich and motivate their students in computer science.
Interactive Classroom Demos
An effective way to motivate students in computer science is to show them exciting real world applications of what they are learning. Our SOCS Liaison Officer will help you to motivate your students with our interactive classroom demo. Students will be challenged to work in teams to solve problems as a computer would. They will also be presented with information about computer science degrees and jobs.
This session can be customized to be as long as you would like but usually requires at least a full period. There is no cost for the session and no preparation required. To learn more or request a session please contact our SOCS Liaison at liaison@socs.uoguelph.ca or 519-824-4120 ext. 53550.
The goals of this presentation are:
- To connect real world applications of computer science with what students are learning in your classroom
- To encourage students to pursue computer science in further high-school and university studies
- To provide students with different ways of thinking about computers and how they work and are used
- To educate students about what they can do with an education in computer science
