BIO:Nidal Nasser is currently working as Associate Professor at the Department of Computing and Information Science, University of Guelph. Dr. Nasser is the founder and director of the Wireless Networking and Mobile Computing Research Laboratory @ Guelph (WiNG) in the Department of Computing and Information Science @ University of Guelph.
Dr. Nasser received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees with Honors in Computer Engineering from Kuwait University, State of Kuwait, in 1996 and 1999, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in the School of Computing at Queen's University, Canada, in 2004.
His current research interest is in the area of computer communication networks and systems. His research interests include, but are not limited to, next generation wireless cellular networks (UMTS, 1xEV-DO and HSPA), broadband wireless and mobile networks (WiMAX), wireless and mobile sensor networks, fourth generation (4G) heterogeneous wireless data networks and systems, mobile and wireless computing, ubiquitous and pervasive computing, performance evaluation of communication networks, and communication protocols and algorithms.
He has actively engaged in many professional activities:
- Symposium Co-Chair: Wireless Sensor Networks Symposium in the International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference (IWCMC), Leipzig, Germany, June 2009.
Program Co-Chair: IEEE Globecom 2008, Ad Hoc, Sensor and Mesh Networking Symposium, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Nov.-Dec. 2008. - General Co-Chair: Second IEEE International Workshop on Heterogeneous Wireless Networks: Resource Management and QoS (HWN-RMQ). To be held in conjunction with IEEE International Conference on Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking and Communications (WiMob), Avignon France, October 2008.
- Workshop Co-Chair: Second IEEE International Workshop on eSafety and Convergence of Heterogeneous Wireless Networks (eSCo-Wi). In conjunction with IEEE International Performance, Computing, and Communications Conference (IPCCC), 11-13 April 2007, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.
- Workshops Chair: IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, January 2007.
- He serves as Technical Program Committee member for many international conferences and workshops such as IEEE ICC, IEEE GOLBECOM, IEEE LCN, IEEE IPCCC, IEEE CCNC, IEEE AINA, IEEE/IFIP WOCN, IEEE WiMob and IEEE WLN. He also serves as a professional reviewer for many refereed journals and international conferences such as IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE ICC, IEEE GOLBECOM, and IEEE WCNC.
